Canada’s New $10,000 Heat Pump Rebate Starts November 1. Here’s What Ontario Canada’s New $10,000 Heat Pump Rebate Starts November 1. Here’s What Ontario Homeowners Need to Know.
If your furnace is getting old, the timing of your next replacement just got a lot more important.
The federal government has announced a new National Heat Pump Rebate, backed by $2 billion over eight years. Eligible households can receive $2,000, and low to median income households can receive up to $10,000.
Here’s the part most people will miss. The rebate portal doesn’t open until early 2027, but eligible heat pumps installed starting November 1, 2026 will count. That means you don’t have to wait until spring to make the switch.
Why this rebate is different
Past programs came with hoops. Energy audits before installation, audits after, long waits for paperwork. This one is built to be simpler. Applications go through an online portal, and no energy audit is required before or after installation.
Why now
Roughly one million home heating systems are replaced in Canada every year, and close to 80% of those happen because the old system breaks unexpectedly. Nobody wants to make a big decision with no heat in January.
Planning ahead means you choose the system, the timing and the price. Not the weather.
Why a heat pump
A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel to create it, which makes it far more efficient than most traditional systems. It also does double duty.
- - Heating in winter and cooling in summer from one system
- - Lower energy costs compared to many conventional setups
- - Lower emissions, powered by clean Canadian electricity
- - Year round comfort without a separate AC unit
